The position is linked to a research project focused on how cultural institutions and media are being digitalized in the Czech Republic. The application deadline is April 30, 2026.

Report: Generative artificial intelligence through the eyes of Czech children and adolescents

Czech children and adolescents use generative artificial intelligence (AI) most frequently for school-related tasks, particularly for writing essays or reports (42%), and for summarising or explaining longer texts (39%). Everyday use is also common, with approximately one-third of Czech children and adolescents using generative AI to get recommendations. They ask AI what to do, watch, listen to, or what to buy (29.5%). These findings are part of the research report published today on Safer Internet Day by experts from the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University. The results are based on over 2,600 responses from children and adolescents aged 9–17.

The Department of Media Studies and Journalism offers a PhD position for a motivated candidate with an interest in political communication and the online information environment. The position is linked to a research project focused on how social networks and their rules/algorithms influence the visibility of political content, the spread of problematic messages, and attitudes towards moderation or regulation of platforms. The deadline for applications is April 30, 2026.

Book Talk: The Margins of Journalism

Local journalists play a key role in the transformation of both media and society. In her new book The Margins of Journalism, Lenka Waschková Císařová explores their work on the periphery of the journalistic field, which nonetheless shapes the very core of the profession. The conversation with the author, led by Monika Metyková, will take place on May 6 at 4 PM in the Aula of the Faculty of Social Studies.

Call for PhD Students in Political Communication and Journalism Studies

At the Department of Media Studies and Journalism at Masaryk University we are looking for new motivated PhD students to join our research community.

The department is one of the key academic departments in Central Europe dedicated to research of media, journalists and media audiences, as well as to the education of future journalists and media and communication analysts.

We offer journalism & media studies undergraduate and graduate programmes in Czech language. Moreover, the department takes part in two undergraduate programmes taught in English, Politics, Media and Communication and Culture, Media, and Performative Arts, and provides a doctoral program in Media and Journalism Studies.

We also warmly welcome exchange students coming to us under the Erasmus+ programme and other exchange programmes. The exchange students can choose from a wide range of English-taught courses in journalism and media and communication studies.
